Special Educational Needs (S.E.N.)

At *Polruan School/Pelynt we strive to ensure that your children enjoy their learning and fulfil their potential. The staff and governors do their best to ensure that appropriate provision is made for any pupil who has special educational needs, within a wholly inclusive environment.

Special Needs in the Classroom

All children have access to the National Curriculum. In line with the Special Educational Needs Code of Practice, our school S.E.N. policy (available on request) details the procedures we follow to identify and make provision for pupils who may have a special educational need. All our teachers work hard to ensure that their teaching matches the needs of all learners and they undergo regular training to keep their S.E.N. knowledge up to date. We are now a “dyslexia friendly” school and we have recently introduced “Thrive”, a new approach which supports children’s emotional development.

Keeping you informed

We hold regular review meetings to keep you fully informed about your child’s progress and achievements and you are, of course, welcome to come and talk to us about any issues or concerns whenever you may need to. Please speak to your child’s teacher to arrange a suitable time or, if you would like to speak with Stella MacDonald, our Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator, *Mrs Sandy / Mrs Darby  in the school office will be happy to arrange an appointment for you.

Please be advised that a copy of our 'Local Offer' - SEN Information Report together with the levels of support and provision offered by our school can be found as an attachment below.
