THE SCHOOL COUNCIL

As an integral part of our school ethos of community, care and responsibility, we have an active School Council.  Important issues are discussed with the School Council and time is spent explaining the reasons for certain courses of action.  As far as possible we make time to listen to children’s concerns and opinions and to take account of different points of view.

Representatives from Canute and Tregeagle classes are elected in the Autumn Term for one year to attend regular School Council meetings, run by the representatives themselves with a Teaching Assistant or the Headteacher present.  The Council has its own agenda of matters raised by pupils, eg. playground activities or possible new food choices.  Representatives report back to their class and in assemblies; School Council suggestions are seriously considered by adults and frequently acted upon.  The School Council is a superb opportunity for children to experience democracy in action and they even have their own budget to manage.
